As many of you may know, last weekend was quite the roller coaster of emotions for Star Wars fans with the releases of Episode IX’s title and first trailer shown at Celebration. Not only did Episode IX steal the show, but the first footage of the Mandalorian stole some of the limelight as well.
Despite the Skywalker saga being the fan-favorite as of now, what’s really a compelling subject to discuss is Rey’s backstory. Many speculate she’s a Kenobi, Skywalker, etc. At this point in time, none of completely know what Kylo meant when he told Rey:
Kylo Ren : Do you know the truth about your parents? Or have you always known? You’ve just hidden it away. Say it.
Rey : [in tears] They were nobody.
Kylo Ren : They were filthy junk traders. Sold you off for drinking money. They’re dead in a pauper’s grave in the Jakku desert. You come from nothing. You’re nothing. But not to me.
Many speculate that Kylo was indeed telling the truth about the origin of Rey. Apparently, it appears that theory seems to now be confirmed via an interview with JJ Abrams and Clayton Sandell during Good Morning America:
