What’s the “Dealio” with Rey?

For awhile now, Daisy Ridley (Rey) has been quite silent in terms of revealing anything related to Episode IX. One has to wonder of how long it will be until Ridley or another actor/actress ends up slipping up and saying too much. To be quite honest, I don’t think we’d want to be there when that happens, especially with Disney operatives probably breathing down their necks until December.

Most recently though, Ridley has been making waves around the media with the likes of USA Today and the Happy Sad Confused podcast. During these appearances, Ridley answered a few unanswered questions related to ‘The Rise of Skywalker’.

Up first, is this question: Who are Rey’s parents? From Episodes 7-8, fans still haven’t really gotten a solid answer to this question. Sure, Kylo Ren told Rey in Episode 8, and while at her weakest emotional state, said:

“Do you know the truth about your parents? Or have you always known? You’ve just hidden it away. Say it… They were filthy junk traders. Sold you off for drinking money. They’re dead in a pauper’s grave in the Jakku desert. You come from nothing. You’re nothing. But not to me.”

But let’s be honest, the whole purpose of this response was to arouse conflict within Rey and in almost doing so, Kylo then proceeded to ask Rey to join him and bring a new order to the galaxy. Thankfully, Rey withdrew. However, to this day, we have no concrete idea of whether Kylo was telling her the truth or not- until now:

“[Director J.J. Abrams] did say the question is answered,” Ridley confirmed with USA Today. “So at the end of the film, you do know what the dealio is.”

Whether Ridley’s response is related to the latter or not, she said:

“Genre-wise, it’s different from the other two, which will become clear when the film comes out,” the actress admitted. “It’s quite emotional.”

However, what’s the “dealio” with that epic duel-like photo?

While speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ridley explained:

“I just think they’ve done a great job with all the relationships. With the fun friendships, and with the sort of strange thing with Rey and Kylo… also we have a great fight. A great fight,” explained Ridley. “And I was really happy that the Vanity Fair pictures did show a bit of it. It’s a great fight. Like I’ve become such a better fighter and they made the lightsabers lighter, so it actually looks like we’re swinging light and not like heavy [swords].”

This fight, it was November, we had water being thrown at us—I’m not gonna complain about the cold, I’m just not gonna do it (laughs)—so it was like a real thing of stamina. It felt really epic, and it felt epic even at the time. One can only imagine what it’s gonna look like.”

What’s it gonna look like? If what Vanity Fair revealed earlier this year is indeed what Ridley is referring to, then yes, it does look quite epic!

Only time will tell the true nature of the Force and how it will reveal itself to fans. ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ will be hitting theaters December 20th.
