How a Jedi Prophecy from Master & Apprentice Relates to The Rise of Skywalker

“It matters which side we choose. Even if there will never be more light than darkness. I turn toward it because it is the light.”

Qui-Gon Jinn, Master & Apprentice

These are the words Qui-Gon Jinn said in Claudia Grey’s novel Master & Apprentice. Although Qui-Gon’s belief and conviction to the Jedi prophecies were frowned upon by some, he knew that they helped turn him towards the light. Many thought the Jedi prophecies handed down by the Jedi mystics were mere dreams, not factual evidence of the future. However, just like Qui-Gon, I believe a certain Jedi prophecy may pertain to the future that’s in The Rise of Skywalker.

“When the Force itself sickens, past and future must split and combine.”

Master & Apprentice

After The Last Jedi, the Force is in a weird place right now. Before Kylo defeated Snoke, while speaking to Rey through another one of their Force-powered Facetime calls, he said something very prophetic regarding this prophecy.

“Let the past die. Kill it if you have to.”

Kylo Ren

After Kylo defeats Snoke, while speaking to Rey amidst the ashes of Snoke’s throne room, and explaining about holding on to the past, he explains his desire to rule the galaxy and in doing so, begs her to join or combine forces with him. At this point in time, the Force sickens through Kylo’s poor choices. He had the opportunity to cure the Force by allowing his own past to die and join forces with Rey to stop the First Order and destroy evil forever. But he didn’t- he let evil prevail and consume him.

But in The Rise of Skywalker, I believe Kylo will have another opportunity to choose between his past and future.

As Kylo Ren decides between his past and future, in the end, he will choose to split from his evil ways or his past and combine forces with the future– which he knows to be Rey. While Rey is the future, Kylo is the past. This is why Kylo asked Rey to join him. Kylo knows the future of the galaxy lies solely within Rey.

“When the Force itself sickens, past and future must split and combine.”

Master & Apprentice

As the Force sickens through Kylo’s evil choices and not learning from his past, the only way to cure the Force is through an alliance. In other words, this prophecy is pointing towards an alliance between good and evil-Kylo and Rey-past and future. Rey and Kylo will combine to defeat the ultimate evil- Palpatine.

Unfortunately, Rey and Kylo both don’t realize that the real and unknown evil behind the scenes the entire time has been Palpatine. He’s been pulling the strings since the beginning, even when Snoke was in power.

The question is, will Kylo choose to split or separate himself from the dark side and his evil past and combine forces with Rey to secure the future of the galaxy while ultimately defeating the real evil that has been mastering his art of deception this whole time?

I’m no Jedi mystic and for all I know, this prophecy may have already come true. I don’t know much about Star Wars prophecies but if this prophecy has still yet to be fulfilled, I think it may have some significance to the story and ultimate outcome in The Rise of Skywalker
