Lucasfilm has been quite busy this year, especially with the release of The Rise of Skywalker looming on the horizon. With Episode IX being the grand finale of the Skywalker saga, this is go-time for the Lucasfilm team to expand the franchise beyond the Skywalker story. Like I’ve said before, the future is bright for Disney’s multi-billion dollar franchise with tons of Disney+ TV shows and trilogies and recently, a Marvel executive taking a jump into the franchise as well.
With so much being thrown at us at once, it seems like the flood of Star Wars content never ceases. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining, but sometimes I wonder if these executives enjoy putting Star Wars fans into a coma. But like I said, I’m not complaining. In fact, Lucasfilm made sure to put a few more fans into a coma while at the New York Comic-Con just this past week. TONS of new content hit fans in attendance like a shock wave from a seismic charge.
Lucasfilm Publishing creative director Michael Siglain began the presentation with a slide titled, “Project Luminous.” For those who don’t know what this is, I don’t know either. I mean, all I know is that this such some form of project that has been in the working for years and has been kept VERY secret from the public- until now.
“The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. Until… PROJECT LUMINOUS, 2020.”Lucasfilm Publishing Panel, NYCC 2019
Again, another dead end. Lucasfilm Publishing spoke very few words about this secret Star Wars project but this time, they finally gave us something to go on. Many famous Star Wars authors have been contributing their time and talents to this project. If this isn’t proof enough that the wait will be worth it, think again! Because Project Luminous in all of its glory will finally be released next year, 2020. Let’s just hope that this project isn’t anything related to Stardust.
Don’t worry because if Project Luminous wasn’t enough to put you into a coma, maybe some of these other huge reveals will do the trick.
What did I tell you? It’s A LOT to take in. Hopefully, you haven’t fallen into a coma just yet because I have one last thing to share. I wonder what Wedge Antilles would think of it?
What is Wedge Antilles doing on the Journey To The Rise Of Skywalker book cover? Well, it looks like he’s still alive after all. Wedge has survived both Death Star attacks so let’s be honest, I think it’s about time he deserves some well earned screen time. Wait, did I say screen time? Oops.
Denis Lawson is reprising his role in Episode IX as Wedge Antilles! However, did you know that two actors actually played Wedge?
“In A New Hope, actor Colin Higgins also played Wedge. The whole thing is very confusing, especially when you discover that voice actor David Ankrum dubbed both of Wedge’s lines in A New Hope even though Lawson used his real voice in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. (This is why Wedge doesn’t have an English accent.)Inverse
Since Denis Lawson is the real-life uncle of Ewan McGregor, maybe some family-friendly texts were sent his way from Ewan about coming back as Wedge. But hey, no matter how it happened, I’m glad he’s back!
Now, you have my permission to go into a coma. If all of this wasn’t enough to at least make you pinch yourself, I don’t know what will. Again, like I said, the future of Star Wars is bright. The party has only just begun. Remove those restraining bolts and get ready for much more to come!
