How David & Goliath Inspired Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order

It’s true. All of it.

The history of the Jedi is a complicated one. Peace, prosperity, and then there is Order 66, where nearly all of the Jedi went extinct. Although becoming a Jedi is a common aspiration for some, the price for such power and devotion to an ancient religion comes at a steep cost. Cal Kestis knows the struggle. Exile and sometimes fleeing for your life is what comes with the territory.

His story is one of a “Padawan fleeing the Empire’s sinister inquisitors following Emperor Palpatine’s Order 66.” It’s a story the Jedi wouldn’t want to tell you.

With EA and Respawn Entertainment telling the story of a lone Padawan Cal Kestis through Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, you’ll figure out that sometimes Cal feels like the whole weight of the galaxy is on his shoulders, just like how David felt when he faced Goliath. Luckily, game director Stig Asmussen helped shed some light on Cal’s fight between Goliath- the Empire.

“One of the things that’s unique is our time period,” said game director Stig Asmussen. Cal’s being hunted. He’s been cast as essentially a witch and people aren’t pulling any punches. We want the player to be on edge, to feel like they need to fight back. It’s a real David versus Goliath story.”

Throughout the story, Cal will face an array of enemies, but one of the most recognized ones are Inquisitor’s. Luckily though, Cal will be faced with other frustrations like puzzles where physics will play a role in uncovering the mysteries of the story.

“You can expect to see more of that [puzzles] in the game.”

Inspiration from other games also fueled this struggle between light and dark- David and Goliath.

“There’s tons of inspiration from a lot of different sources. My background is the God of War series, and some of the pillars that we had in that game were combat, exploration and puzzles, and it wouldn’t really make sense to go away from what your experience is. It also is a great way to experience a Jedi, to go to an old temple. It just really worked with this game really well.”

An essential part of the story is the user being able to feel a part of this struggle between light and dark- David vs. Goliath. Imagine yourself as Cal. As your abilities grow, so should your weapon. Lightsaber customization will help you immerse yourself into this story more than ever before.

Just like David who put his trust in his God, Cal will put his trust in the Force. The only way to defeat Goliath or the dark side, is to immerse yourself in his world. Real life and Star Wars have more similarities than you think.
