Doctor Aphra TV Series in Development for Disney+

The Mandalorian has been a huge hit with Star Wars fans. Even those who aren’t massive fans of the franchise see it as a success. With the latest episode being directed by Deborah Chow, recently announced director for the upcoming untitled Kenobi series, fans are excited for the future of Star Wars on Disney+. Rumored to begin filming next summer, Deborah Chow has shown she has what it takes to be successful and in the Star Wars franchise. If you haven’t seen Chapter 3 of The Mandalorian yet, watch it now! It’s the best episode thus far.

Earlier on, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that besides Season 2 of The Mandalorian, the Kenobi series, and the Cassian Andor series, either currently in development or production, stated that an additional three more Star Wars series are in the works for Disney+. Currently, no one knows for sure what they could be about, but a recent rumor first reported by Star Wars Unity, claims that a Doctor Aphra TV series could be amongst those in talks. Doctor Aphra is considered to be the Indiana Jones of Star Wars. A fearless rogue archaeologist who manages to get herself and her crew into all sorts of danger while uncovering the deepest secrets of the galaxy. With Doctor Aphra’s first comic series set to end on December 11th, a relaunch is planned in April of 2020 after its stellar success from being nominated for the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comic Book.

With Doctor Aphra having such a huge success among comic lovers, it would be a no-brainer to bring her archaeological adventures to a TV series. However, if this rumor becomes reality, we also might see Darth Vader again sooner than you think due to Doctor Aphra working for the Sith Lord in the comics. Not only would this help re-introduce Darth Vader into live-action form again, but it would be a nice segway into a future Darth Vader TV series as well.

Whatever the case may be, it would be exciting to see a new character born through the pages of comics, take its first step into a live-action Star Wars TV series.
