Journey into the Unknown Regions with Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn Ascendancy Book One

Timothy Zahn has been the master behind his puppet, Thrawn, since the days of the Star Wars Legends line of works. Some might say that Zahn is Thrawn, to a certain degree. This blue-faced, red-eyed character has become a well-known and feared name among Star Wars fans. Known for his brutal and devious military tactics, Thrawn has etched his name on the ever-growing list among the most feared villains in the franchise’s history.

When Disney acquired Lucasfilm back in 2012, at first, Thrawn was considered to be non-canon. Then in 2014, Disney redefined Star Wars continuity. Fans of Thrawn were anxiously waiting for Grand Master Zahn to bring this beloved character back to the franchise. Then, the unexpected happen. In July of 2016, Thrawn was reintroduced into the franchise through the animated series, Star Wars: Rebels. Following his introduction, Thrawn was once again a canonical character in the franchise. A year later, the release of Timothy Zahn’s origin story Star Wars: Thrawn was released by Del Rey Books in 2017. It was a sigh of relief and well-deserved wait for many. A sequel, titled Thrawn: Alliances was then released in July 2018, with a third novel, Thrawn: Treason releasing in July of this year.

The history of Thrawn’s path back to Star Wars canon was one heck of a ride. But, Timothy Zahn has no intention of leaving his character in the dust now that he has Disney on his side. At this year’s Comic-Con in New York City, a new Thrawn trilogy was born. Zahn announced this addition to his beloved character where it will explore a more in-depth story of Thrawn’s origins and his home: The Chiss Ascendancy.

Today, the title and cover for Book One of Thrawn’s new trilogy was released under the hashtag “#HappyThrawnsgiving.” What better way to announce the return of Thrawn than making it relatable to this week’s Thanksgiving holiday!

Coming May 2020, Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising will explore the adventures and origins of Thrawn through his journeyings in the Unknown Regions. Make sure to check back here when more information is released!
