*Possible Spoilers Ahead*
Update: Disney has removed their online listing of the score for The Rise of Skywalker.
John Williams has been the maestro of the Skywalker saga since the very beginning. And ever since then, his music has given Star Wars the identity it was sorely lacking at first. Without his ‘out-of-this-galaxy’ composing skills, Star Wars wouldn’t ‘feel’ like Star Wars or possibly be where it is today.
As a fan of his work as so many other fans are, I cannot imagine a Star Wars film without John Williams composing the music. This in no way undermines the other composers for movies or TV shows such as Solo, Rogue One, or The Mandalorian, because their scores were fantastic as well. However, it’s just that William’s music is the heart and soul of Star Wars. And it always will be. He will be missed.
In honor of his legacy, what better way to get ready for The Rise of Skywalker than to be able to stream the entire score for free! Yep, you heard that right. Walt Disney Studios provided a free streaming platform for the entire score of The Rise of Skywalker on their “For Your Consideration” via Disney Studios for Award considerations. If you haven’t listened to them yet, make sure to have a tissue in hand.
Now, here is where things get a little dicey in terms of potential spoilers. The song listings on Disney’s site had no names, just numbers. However, thanks to a fellow Reddit user u/ToastedGreedo, we now have all the information we need.
On December 20th, the same day as the release of The Rise of Skywalker, the official release of this album will be available to retailers for purchase, download, and streaming.
