The Lightsaber Fight and Sound Architect That Got Snubbed

The best lightsaber fight in the entire saga is best known in Revenge of Sith between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.

However, one fight that surpassed the magnitude of this epic battle was cut from the film, as told by stunt coordinator Nick Gillard who choreographed the fight scene. Supposedly, this fight scene was to include an extended fight between Kenobi and General Grievous’ six bodyguards. Instead, the end result included Kenobi using the Force to crush the guards from a piece of inconvenient ceiling material.

In the long run, the fight was decided to be unessential to the overall story line and with the production running short on time, the final decision was to cut it from the film.

“It was the most complicated fight we ever did, and George said, ‘I’m really sorry, I’m going to drop a container on five of them!’”

Nick Gillard

As you can see, another yet-to-be famous fight scene didn’t get the credit it deserved. Yet, here we are, and the tradition appears to have continued, except directed at one person this time.

For those who didn’t know, a famous Star Wars alum got snubbed in the credit rolls of The Last Jedi– Sound Architect Ben Burtt. Burtt was famous for creating the overall sound of C-3PO and bringing Anthony Daniel’s character to life, including the development of the traditional sounds of Star Wars like blaster fire, lightsabers, and spaceships. What he did was incredible and, in all honesty, he should have received credit for his work. That’s why J.J. Abrams has made sure no one is getting snubbed this time around.

When the final credits roll for the final installment of the Skywalker saga, Ben Burtt will be known as the sound architect for Lucas’ epic space opera. Finally.

Unfortunately, no matter the film or TV show, great things or people always tend to get snubbed somehow or someway. That’s the natural order of things. In any case, make sure to see The Rise of Skywalker when it releases next week!
