Casting Call Reveals a Young Luke Skywalker in Upcoming Kenobi Series

We received an interesting development regarding the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, one that gives us a bit of insight into the timeline of the show. Twitter influencer @DanielRPK recently revealed that casting calls for a young Luke Skywalker have been sent to agents.

Now, it’s not known how young is young. Will he be a teenager, right before the events of A New Hope? Or will we get to see a glimpse of Obi-Wan watching over him from afar during his childhood? There is so much unexplored material between the events of the prequels and those of the original trilogy. Writer Hossein Amin is excited to explore that territory over the course of a TV series, rather than a film.

“The idea of being able to go into a character journey plus the politics and plus all the vastness of the empire and what’s going on is exciting just because it feels like a proper period of history,” he told DiscussingFilm. Amin refers to Obi-Wan as one of his favorite characters, saying that his presence in both the prequels and the originals, and his evolution between the two, marks him as “such an iconic character.”

The last time we got a younger version of an OT character – Alden Ehrenreich in Solo – the casting was met with mixed reactions. It’s hard to speculate who will land the role of Luke when we aren’t sure of the age range, but there will no doubt be many theories leading up to the announcement. The Kenobi series doesn’t have a release date just yet, so we could still be waiting for quite some time.
