According to the latest update from Making Star Wars, we may get an unexpected guest in the new Kenobi series. And our old friend will have a new look.
The show will cover some portion of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s life between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Even though it will focus on new and unknown parts of his life, we’ll get a blast from his past with a visit from the notorious Gungan Jar Jar Binks. He’ll be a different, older Jar Jar, with a beard to show it. “Jar Jar has a beard to reflect where he’s been and what his life has been like since they were all deceived by a great lie that ushered in the first Galactic Empire.”
Jason Ward was hesitant to claim this as fact, but is confident the rumor is “accurate and on the way.”
Another thing up in the air is whether original actor Ahmed Best will return to play Binks for the series. Nothing has been confirmed, but as Ward points out, Jar Jar without Ahmed just isn’t the same.
We don’t know much of Jar Jar’s life after the events of the prequel trilogy, other than his appearance in the Aftermathseries by Chuck Wendig. It would be interesting to see what the goofy Gungan has been up to all these years. I’m especially curious to know what happened to him soon after the fall of the Jedi.
Jar Jar Binks is somewhat infamous in the Star Warscommunity – many fans did not appreciate his character in The Phantom Menace. Whether or not you like the character, Ahmed Best is the real deal, an excellent part of the Star Wars family. Let’s hope the series brings him all the love and recognition he deserves!
