Disney Looks to Taika Waititi to Direct Upcoming Star Wars Film

Star Wars is taking a breather from its cinematic pursuits for the time being, so they can plot and plan in peace. Part of that planning involves finding directors for new projects, and it looks like Lucasfilm has some folks in mind – including Taika Waititi.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Waititi has been approached by Disney to direct a film in the Star Wars universe. He directed the season finale of The Mandalorian, a smash hit among fans. His film Jojo Rabbit nabbed six Oscar nominations. Obviously, he would be a wonderful choice to create a Star Wars movie.

Hollywood Reporter did highlight the concern of Waititi’s schedule – “The filmmaker has emerged as one of the most sought-after in town with his ability to oscillate tones, scope and budgets.” He probably has plenty of opportunities coming his way, not to mention the projects he already has scheduled, including Thor: Love and Thunder. Will he be able to make time for the galaxy far, far away? I’m thinking we’ll find out at Celebration in Anaheim this summer, so have patience!

What kind of Star Wars film would you want to see Waititi work on?
