So, many rumors have been swirling around the upcoming Kenobi series that it’s hard to keep the facts straight. One day it’s cancelled, the next, pushed back, rewritten, reduced, restructured – as C-3P0 would put it, madness.
A more recent and turbulent rumor revolved around difficulty with the scripts. Hollywood Reporter cited a source saying “the Kenobi story trod similar ground as The Mandalorian, seeing the Jedi master lending a protective hand to a young Luke and possible even a young Leia, perhaps mirroring how the Mandalorian took Baby Yoda under his protective custody.” Perhaps they fear the plots were too similar.
But Obi-Wan himself stepped in to address our fears. Ewan McGregor told IGN that while filming may be delayed, the show itself should be right on track.
“I think now that Episode IX came out and everyone at Lucasfilm’s got more time to spend on the writing, they felt like they wanted more time to spend on the writing,” he told them at a Birds of Prey event. He also said he’d heard nothing to validate the rumor of the show being reduced from six episodes to four.
He spoke to the drama of it all, as well – “There’s all this bull**** about creative differences and all that stuff, none of it is true.”
If there’s anyone I trust, it’s Ewan. As of now, both he and director Deborah Chow remain attached to the project, despite the rumors running rampant.
We’ll keep an eye on this story as it develops. As always, may the Force be with you.
