Doctor Aphra: Treasure Hunter Extraordinaire

StarWars.com revealed a cover for the new Doctor Aphra series coming this spring, accompanied by an interview with the new series’ writer, Alyssa Wong. The new series starts after the events of The Empire Strikes Back, and sends her on a mission to find some valuable, ancient artifacts.

Aphra is a character notorious for toeing the ethical line, something Wong enjoys about her. “No matter which side Aphra’s currently on, you can count on her to be deeply selfish. And that’s what I love the most about her.” The character will work with either side of the war, as long as it benefits her, which makes Aphra “really fun to write.”

In the newest series, Aphra will search for the Rings of Vaale, “the last relic of a long-forgotten secret society…They’ll make Aphra rich.” Unfortunately, she has to race treasure collector Ronen Tagge to acquire them first. Sounds like quite the adventure to me!

In other Star Wars comic news, it looks like we’ll be getting a weekly Clone Wars comic series, published by IDW. The Hollywood Reporter gave the announcement:

“The series will be a five-issue anthology similar to IDW’s Tales From Vader’s Castle and Return to Vader’s Castle minis, written by Michael Moreci with a framing sequence each issue from Derek Charm (The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Jughead) as the heroes from the animated series share war stories while pinned down in the middle of the conflict. Beyond Charm’s contributions, each issue will feature a different artist, with Arianna Florean, Megan Levens, Valentina Pinto, Davide Tinto and Philip Murphy on hand to draw the five issues, respectively.”

The series is set to begin on April 1st.

We also have two new cover reveals for Darth Vader #3: Vol. III and The Rise of Kylo Ren #3

The Vader cover is illustrated by In-Hyuk Lee, and we have this description: “Vader returns to Naboo and teams up with an “eerie shadow” from his past to search for answers.”

The Rise of Kylo Ren #3 wil release February 12th.
