The Rise of Skywalker gave us a little insight into the life of Poe Dameron, pre-sequel trilogy. For anyone intrigued by his spice-running past, 2020 is the year for you: the character is getting his own young adult novel, to be released this August. Polygon announced the book today, alongside a short interview with the author, Alex Segura.
Here is a brief description:
“It’s been a few years since Poe’s mother, who was a pilot for the Rebellion, passed away, and Poe and his father have had more and more trouble connecting. Not sure what he wants to do with his life, teenage Poe runs away from home to find adventure, and to figure out what kind of man he is meant to be.”
This novel will take a dive into Poe’s shadier past. According to Segura, we’ll see him navigate some seedy parts of the galaxy. He describes the book as “a galactic crime novel.” We’ll get to see how he became acquainted with the masked rogue Zorii Bliss, and hopefully, by extension, Babu Frik. He is the new favorite, right?
Segura glowingly spoke about writing Poe’s character. “Poe is, of course, a hero — but that doesn’t mean he woke up one day fully formed in terms of his beliefs and experiences. Poe’s loyal, driven, extremely sharp, and stubborn — but the chance to tell the story of how he came to be that Poe…was extremely appealing to me as a storyteller.”
