Test Footage Revealed for Star Wars: Underworld

A new video has revealed test footage of Star Wars: Underworld, a series that was under development by Lucasfilm and Stargate Studios in 2010, two years prior to George Lucas selling Lucasfilm to Disney.

Underworld, which was conceived by Lucas in 2005, was to take place between the events of Order 66 and A New Hope on Level 1313 in the seedy underbelly of Coruscant. It also would have been a tie-in to the similarly canceled video game 1313.

The visual effects in the footage are stunning and the vehicles sleek, with a dangerous vibe reminiscent of our brief foray into the lower levels of Coruscant in Attack of the Clones and in the mmorpg Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Underworld would have featured characters such as Saw Gerrera and Vader, according to a Google doc containing detailed information, photographs, and quotes about the project.

One can hope that Lucasfilm, which has taken some of Lucas’ previous concepts and made them canon (such as the Church of the Force), will likewise revisit the ideas behind this canceled series. Perhaps the Cassian Andor live action series will hit that dark and gritty vibe seen in the test footage for Underworld.
