Clone Wars Finale Will Change the Way We Think About Star Wars

We’ve got a ways to go before we see the Siege of Mandalore arc in The Clone Wars, but Sam Witwer hyped up the final arc with io9 recently. He spoke about working with Filoni again, finishing George Lucas’s last Star Wars project, and returning to the character of Maul.

Witwer praised Filoni for his work on the final arc.

“He’s bringing with him into these last four episodes a lot more cinematic language than has ever been used on Clone Wars. A lot more experience, a lot more crazy cinematic tricks. I really cannot wait for people to see it.”

Not only will the cinematic quality be excellent, but according to Witwer, the writing will wow fans as well. He called the script, “The best Clone Wars script that I ever read,” speaking about the entire arc.

The grand finale will impact Star Wars in a major way. “It’s consequential, it changes the way you think about certain things in Star Wars,” Witwer said, “changes the way you think about certain characters, and shows some really interesting core mythology stuff.”

We know Filoni can get pretty weird when it comes to mythology and Force lore, so I can’t wait to see what he’s got coming.

Witwer is most satisfied to bring Lucas’s final in-universe work to a close.

Clone Wars is the last George Lucas-produced Star Wars. To be able to finish George’s story is tremendously meaningful to all of us, so that’s really the big deal right there.”

And of course, we all look forward to some more time with Darth Maul. Witwer has been with this character for a long time, and through many phases of his character development. In this final arc, we’ll see another side to our favorite Sith.

“I believe you get to see sides of this character you’ve not quite seen. We see him trying things he’s never really quite tried—things he’s maybe not so good at.”

What could that possibly be? We’ve got a ways to go before we find out. In the meantime, stay tuned to the final season, which airs every Friday on Disney+.
