The first season finale of The Mandalorian ranks among the best in all of Star Wars, with Taika Waititi’s directorial brilliance striking the perfect chord between old and new that left fans wanting more.
Alongside Deborah Chow, Taika Waititi became a fan-favorite among those most wanted to direct a future Star Wars flick. In fact, fans were expecting him to return to the director’s chair for The Mandalorian season two. Sadly enough, Waititi confirmed yesterday that he was unable to return.
Waititi broke the news during a recent Instagram Live watch party of Thor: Ragnarok. He explained that he was unable to direct any episodes of The Mandalorian season two due to conflicts with his schedule while directing the soccer film Next Goal Wins.
Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts are issues that commonly plague the film industry. Although it’s sad news to hear that Waititi wasn’t able to return as a director, we still have yet to hear any news whether he might return to voice his character, IG-11.
Let’s hope that Taika Waititi is able to return to the Star Wars franchise to continue his untarnished legacy as one of the franchises well-loved directors.
