Early ‘Star Wars’ Park Ideas Featured Mos Eisley

A recent interview on WDW Radio let fans know the Star Wars theme park originally planned was very, very different from what we have today.

Former Disney World VP Dan Cockerell told WDW the original plan for Star Wars Land was centered around Tatooine, complete with “plans for a Mos Eisley cantina that was going to sit across from Star Tours,” according to Blog Mickey

However, Bob Iger met with Kathleen Kennedy and the idea was “scrapped”.

“Kennedy reportedly nixed the idea, stating that there were way more Star Wars stories ahead of Disney than behind them, and maybe they shouldn’t create a theme park land themed to Tatooine, a locale viewed as being of the Star Wars past,” explained Blog Mickey

In this writer’s personal opinion, this is a good thing. It doesn’t seem like there’s much to do in Tatooine, based on the films, so Batuu appears to be a more entertaining setting. Others, however, might long for the callback to the original trilogy, which is absolutely understandable.

What do you think? Would you have enjoyed a Tatooine-themed park? Let us know in the comments!
