Character Study: Quinlan Vos

I believe Quinlan Vos to be an underrated and underappreciated character in the Star Wars universe.  Quinlan was a male Jedi Master during the Clone Wars from the planet Kiffu. Vos was known as a maverick in the Jedi Order. He would constantly bend, and sometimes break, the rules of the Order. Because of this, many of his missions took him undercover into the criminal underworld.

Quinlan was a human approximately 1.9 meters tall with black dreadlock hair. Vos had spent most of his life at the Jedi Temple. He was discovered at a young age by Jedi Master Tholme, who would apprentice the young child. Most Jedi Masters excelled in one type of skill. His was the psychometry, the ability to sense memories of other beings by touching objects they had come in contact with.  With this ability, he had become one of the best trackers in the known galaxy.

During the Clone Wars, he was tasked, along with Obi-Wan Kenobi, to hunt down and capture Ziro the Hutt, who had escaped the Republic prison.  They had tracked him to Nal Hutta and then to the jungle planet of Teth where they found the bounty hunter Cad Bane standing over a dead Ziro. Quinlan and Obi-Wan were unable to capture Cad Bane. After Cad Bane’s escape, Quinlan went back to his underworld missions until once again the Jedi Council needed him for a special mission to hopefully end the Clone Wars.

The Jedi Council had asked Quinlan to assassinate Count Dooku (Darth Tyranus).  They also suggested that he team up with the Count’s former apprentice turned bounty hunter, Asajj Ventress. After helping her complete some bounties, he was able to gain her trust. Quinlan then told her his plan to assassinate Count Dooku. Asajj said she would help, but to be able to kill Darth Tyranus, he needed to do one thing.

That one thing is to call upon the power of the dark side of the Force.  Asajj trained him in the ways of the dark side. During their time together, they had become close and developed feelings for each other.  The first attempt to take out the Count did not go so well; Quinlan was captured and Asajj was separated.

Count Dooku manipulated Quinlan into joining him and betraying the Republic. Quinlan then returned to the Jedi Order, still under the influence of the dark side. After more betrayal against the Order and another attempt at Count Dooku’s, Asajj was mortally wounded and took her last breath in the arms of Quinlan. He ultimately returned to the light because of Asajj’s love for him.

Quinlan was never confirmed dead after Order 66. No one really knows what happened to Jedi Master Quinlan Vos after that fateful event. We can only hope he kept up the good fight and caused trouble for the Empire everywhere he could.
