‘The Mandalorian’ Sparks Rules Change for Golden Globes

Pedro Pascal’s award-deserving performance in The Mandalorian was shot down due to rules for the Golden Globes that made him not eligible to compete for such awards.

Today, Variety revealed that Pascal was actually “eligible to compete,” despite what the Hollywood Foreign Press Association said last Wednesday that “voice-only performances are not eligible in any acting category.” Pascal’s situation was unique, leading the group to clarify the rule and then stating that Pascal “could have been nominated” for an award last year. Since the actor was unmasked in the finale, this was the loophole to his eligibility.

While this announcement is quite disappointing because it’s water under the bridge now, Pascal will have an opportunity this Fall to get another shot at the Golden Globes when season two of The Mandalorian arrives on Disney+.
